for low-to-moderate income First-time Home Buyers

Through the First Home, First Loan program, Summit County* will provide a $3 to $1 match to assist eligible first-time home buyers with their down payment and closing costs. A maximum of $14,997 is available as a 0% deferred interest loan (with no monthly payments and secured by a second mortgage on the property).  *Excludes Akron, Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls.

To be eligible, the buyer must have below-to-moderate income, which means an income of 80% or less than the area median income.


Definition:
A First-time Home Buyer

  • has never owned a home before or
  • not owned in the past three years or
  • a single parent (an individual) who
    1) is unmarried or legally separated from a spouse or
    2) has custody/joint custody of one or more minor children or
    3) pregnant
  • a displaced homemaker (an individual) who
    1) is an adult
    2) has not worked full-time outside of the home
    for a number of yrs
    3) is unemployed or underemployed

The Loan is Due and Payable Upon:

  • Sale or transfer of title or
  • Home buyer fails to maintain the home as the primary residence or
  • Forty (40) years from the issuance date of the mortgage
